St Patrick's Day Luncheon
The Harrison County Senior Center will be the cite of the St. Patrick's Day Luncheon Wednesday March 17th from 11:30am-1pm. The doors will open at 11:15am and lunch will be served at noon. Advance tickets are $5.00 and are available now thru Tuesday March 16th. Mayors of Harrison County have been invited to serve the meal to Seniors. Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County
Literacy Volunteers of upshur County will be holding a used book sale April 16-17. They are requesting book donations from the community. Books will be collected through April 15th. If you have books you would like to donate, you can drop them off at the Literacy Center at 34 Franklin Street in Buckhannon, or call 304-472-2343 and Literacy Volunteers will be glad to pick them up. Encyclopedias, used text books or magazines are not being accepted.
Dance Into Spring
The Humane Society of Harrison County, in conjunction with Play It Again Promotions, presents Dance Into Spring for the Shelter Animals, featuring Rick K & The Allnighters, Saturday March 20 from 8pm-11pm, at Village Square located on Route 19 South in Clarksburg. Sweets For The Sweet
Caritas House Inc. will hold its annual gala event with the 14th Annual Sweets For The Sweet Saturday March 20th from 7pm-midnight at the Ramada Inn on Scott Avenue in Morgantown. Join your friends for an evening of delicious dessert tasting and entertainment. Several area restaurants will feature one of their special desserts. Partipants will have the opportunity to sample them all and vote for their favorite. Restaurants planning to attend the event include Maxwell's, Synergy Chop House, Classics Restaurant, Coldstone Creamery, Richwood Grill, Ali Baba's and Claudia Atkinson Catering. This year for the first time, the event will include music and dancing to the sounds of Samba Nova. Tickets are on sale now for $20.00 and can be obtained by calling 304-985-0021 or will be available at the door. In addition to live music, there will be live & silent auctions, door prizes, 50/50 drawing and strip tickets. Everyone purchasing a ticket is eligible to win one of the door prizes which includes a flat screen tv, a resort getaway and a large gift basket. Proceeds will benefit Caritas House. Since 1994, Caritas House has been serving persons affected by HIV/AIDS and homelessness. It offers housing support, case management, prevention education, community education and advocacy throughout 25 northern counties in West Virginia.
2010 Irish Legends Gala
Join the Harrison County Catholic Schools for the Irish Legends Gala honoring Senator Joe Minard, Tom Basile, Betty Larosa, Mary Rose Mazza Hendricks and Tommy Thomas. The gala will be held Saturday March 27th at Via Veneto in Bridgeport. The Social begins at 6pm, dinner at 7:30pm and the presentation of awards will follow dinner. Weight Loss Challenge
Local area resident Stacy Priester, a Personal Wellness Coach, has launched a 12 week non-profit class that will offer tips on nutrition and exercise, paired with a hint of competition and a lot of fun. The challenge will take place on Tuesday nights at 7pm at Fairmont State University Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg. The WLC will end Tuesday March 23, 2010. Cash prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 Biggest Losers (Winners) who lose the biggest percentage of their weight. It is based on percentage which makes it an equal competition for both men & women. A portion of the entrance fee will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. There is no specific weight loss program required to join the challenge. Annual Fish Fry
Sacred Heart Catholic Church located in Salem on Route 23 South off Route 50, will hold their Annual Fish Fry on each Friday during Lent beginning February 19th through March 26th. Meals will be served in the Parish Hall to the right of the Church from 4pm-6:45pm. The cost is Adults/$7.00, Child/$4.00, Fish sandwich $3.00 and takeouts will be made available. Homecoming Breakfast Dates
Farmington Homecoming, Inc. will host their fundraiser breakfasts at the Farmington Community Building from 8am-1pm on the following Sundays: March 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. Eat in or carry out. Fun Clean Up Day
The West Union Community Clean-up Committee is planning a Fun Clean-up Day Saturday April 10th. Volunteers are needed for team captains as well as volunteers. Trash bags, gloves, a dump truck for the day and disposal fees are being provided by 2010 WV Make It Shine Statewide Cleanup. The event is being sponsored by REAP initiative within the Department of Environmental Protection and Division of Highways. WVIHF Spring Gala
The West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival's Annual Spring Gala will be held Saturday April 17th at the Village Square Conference Center in Clarksburg. The theme is Carnival In Venice. The event gets underway at 5:30pm and there will be an introduction of Regina Maria 32nd and her court. Tickets are $35.00/adults, $15.00/child 12yrs & under.
